TrueTrackedTrueTracked

WordPress & WooCommerce Installation

The TrueTracked plugin connects any WordPress site to your workspace. On a plain WordPress site it tracks page views, ad clicks and form leads. With WooCommerce active it also tracks the store and sends every paid order from your server. Tracking is first-party on your own domain from the moment you connect, with no DNS records or subdomain to set up.

Requirements: WordPress 6.5 or later, PHP 7.4 or later, and a site served over https. Store tracking needs WooCommerce 8.2 or later; on older versions only page views are tracked until you update.

Step 1: Download the plugin

  1. Sign in at app.truetracked.com (or create an account and a workspace).
  2. Go to Settings → Integrations.
  3. Open the WordPress / WooCommerce card and click Download plugin. You get a file called truetracked.zip.

Step 2: Install and activate it in WordPress

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  2. Choose truetracked.zip and click Install Now.
  3. Click Activate.

Step 3: Connect to TrueTracked

  1. Open Settings → TrueTracked in WordPress.
  2. Click Connect to TrueTracked.
  3. Sign in, pick the workspace this site belongs to, and you are sent straight back to WordPress.

You will see Connected. Page views start now; products are being sent in the background. That is the whole setup. There is no tracking code to paste and nothing to change in your theme.

Step 4: Check it is working

  1. Open your site in a private window (your own logged-in visits are skipped, see below) and browse a few pages.
  2. On a WooCommerce store, place a test order and mark it paid.
  3. Confirm the visit and the order appear in your TrueTracked dashboard with their source attached.

What gets tracked automatically

On every WordPress site:

  • Page views, with ad click IDs and UTM parameters
  • Emails typed into any form (contact, newsletter, checkout), to connect a visitor's visits across devices
  • Logins and sign-ups, linked to the customer's visit

With WooCommerce active, also:

  • Product views, cart views, add to cart and remove from cart
  • Checkout started
  • Purchases, from the thank-you page and from your server. Both carry the order ID, so each order is counted once
  • Orders, sent from your server the first time they become processing, completed or on hold, so bank transfer, cheque and cash on delivery orders count
  • Refunds, cancellations, edits and later payments, which update the order in TrueTracked. They are never sent to your ad platforms a second time
  • Your product catalog: names, images, prices and costs, synced whenever a product changes

Works with the WooCommerce Cart and Checkout blocks, the classic checkout, and High-Performance Order Storage. Orders and products are sent in the background with WooCommerce's Action Scheduler, so checkout never waits on TrueTracked.

First-party tracking without DNS setup

You do not need a custom tracking domain on WordPress. Out of the box the plugin keeps tracking first-party on your own domain in three ways:

  • The visitor cookie is set by your own WordPress server, not by a script.
  • If a visitor's browser blocks TrueTracked, their events are sent through a path on your own site, and your server forwards them.
  • Orders are sent from your server, so the browser is not needed to count a sale.

The fallback path needs WordPress permalinks set to anything other than Plain (Settings → Permalinks). A custom tracking domain is still available if you want the tracking script itself served from your own subdomain. Once you set one up in TrueTracked, the plugin uses it automatically.

Product costs and profit

Product costs come from WooCommerce's own Cost of Goods feature when it is turned on, otherwise from Cost of Goods by SkyVerge or Cost of Goods for WooCommerce by WPFactory. To resend the whole catalog, use Settings → Cost settings → Products → Sync Now in your TrueTracked dashboard. See Cost Settings.

Excluding your own visits

Logged-in administrators and shop managers are not tracked, so your team does not show up in reports. Change the list under Do not track on the plugin's settings page.

Sending conversions to your ad platforms

The plugin sends events to TrueTracked. To pass purchases and leads on to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok and other platforms, switch on the destinations in TrueTracked. See the TrueSignal overview.

Troubleshooting

  • “Your site must use https before it can connect”: switch both the WordPress Address and Site Address to https in Settings → General, then click Connect again.
  • “The connect link expired or was opened in another browser”: start again from Settings → TrueTracked and finish the sign-in in the same browser.
  • No visits showing: check you are not logged in as an administrator or shop manager, or test in a private window.
  • Only page views, no store events: the plugin shows a notice if your WooCommerce version is older than 8.2. Update WooCommerce and store tracking starts on its own.
  • Orders or products not arriving: any failure to send shows as an error notice on Settings → TrueTracked. Details are in WooCommerce → Status → Logs, source truetracked.
  • “This site was disconnected from the TrueTracked dashboard”: the site was removed under Settings → Integrations. Click Connect in WordPress to resume.
